I bought a used mirror grinding kit from AstroBuySell which includes a 6" 25mm plate glass blank, matching glass tool, pitch, selection of grits etc. The kit appears to be a 30 year kit from Beacon Hill Telescopes. The first owner had taken copious notes while rough grinding out to ~F11 (0.9mm), then switching to 120 grit and smoothing.

I tried the short gear from the kit and the grinding problem went away but I then had the mid rotate stall problem. I tried the new motor with worm and that didn't change anything. I finally called it quits due to diminishing interest levels. (I've probably had the mirror on/off the car 15 times now troubleshooting)

Here is a stack of my home-made 8 and 10 inch mirror blanks. The second from the bottom is the one above. I can use the thinner blank below it as the grinding tool.
