I picked this up a few years ago when getting started, and have some other equipment now. Has a nice solid 1" shaft, built to last. Rock saw, grinding wheels, polishing pad.I did replace the Silicon Carbide wheels with 8" galaxy hard diamond wheels (the 80 is getting pretty worn, 200 is still pretty good) .

Grinding left front brake when in Selec Speed Control Tested two days in a row. Front yard only, flat. Following owners manual instructions. Grinding front left (drivers) noise when in Selec Speed Control (SSC). Anyone else. 4LO and 4Hi are fine, without issue. Did not test further then 5 feet each time after grinding started.

Grinding is a bad sound, you may have worn the pads to the point that the metal backing is hitting the metal rotors. You probably need new pads and rotors. Please have this checked ASAP as this could be very dangerous, you may not have any braking soon.

Hogging with a small metal fixtures, I like tool diameter about 1/3 the mirror diameter or less. I once ground a 6" convex mirror blank that had previously been used as a tool using a 1" diameter steel bolt. The head of the bolt had a 1 3/16" diameter contact area for grinding. That is 1/5 the mirror's diameter.

I own a 2002 ford ute XL supercab. I've noticed that from a cold start, the brakes make a grinding noise when I chuck it in reverse and have in the last few weeks now started to make a mild squeeching noise in drive for about 5 minutes until the car's warmed up. When the car's warm, it makes no noise at all when reversing or driving.

Brake Pads are worn out and either 1 of 2 scenarios. Replacing the pads and resurfacing of the rotors. Replacing both pads and rotors (more expensive). Ask the mechanic IF the rotors can be resurfaced. Since this a front wheel drive car, you may only have to worry about front pads & rotors.

Can often be fixed by using the brakes hard to "crush" the offending rock until its pulverized small enough to fall out. If you haven't used the car for a while and it was wet, then the rotors might have a thick layer of rust, which can cause a grinding noise.
