The Rusnok vertical head is in great shape, once I get the table sorted, I can start looking ant the rest of the horizontal mill innards. I ordered the manual for both, so I'll be flying a little less blind once they arrive. Appreciate the info! Tim.

Re: New Rusnok model 80 mill head question. Contact them and request a quote. I know the entire milling machine is around $4k or so, but I don't know what only the head costs. The machines are currently built to order. EM are more responsive to a phone call, but feel free to email them as well.

The collet draw bar shown above, the indexing head, and the vertical head use 3SB/3C collets. The 3SB collets and 3C collets are the same size - so no problem there. For any vertical milling that this machine can not do, I'll use my Rusnok milling machine.

The Rusnok head has also been adapted to many horizontal mills to give them vertical capacity. Another small milling machine, this with a knee, is the Benchmaster. These are no longer manufactured, but appear from time to time on eBay. They lack downfeed on the quill and use MT#2 collets, but otherwise are very nice small machines.

I have a Kearney & Trecker #2CE Horzontal mill that came with a small vertical head as an option. It was only 1/3 HP with #2MT spindle. Not enough HP to do any serious milling. I took it off, built a mounting adapter and installed a Lagun 3 HP vertical head on it. The only problem was it was a real pain to change back and forth.

For any vertical milling that this machine can not do, I'll use my Rusnok milling machine. The swivel indexing head is the older style without the name. This is the power feed drive system. I'll tune the drive shaft in a few days. The power feed is controlled by this lever. This lever arm shuts off the power feed when the cut has been made.

If that guy had advertised it as "Rusnok milling head", he probably (I don't know what you paid) could have gotten 2 to 4 times more for just the head without the "drill press looking" stand.. The seller was a professional machinist, so he knew what it was & advertised it as being good to add to a small horizontal mill.

I believe the Rusnok vertical milling head on the larger Sheldon mill uses "Y" type tool holders. I am not certain but this is what I find when searching for info on that milling head. Finding these may prove difficult. I think ours dates from the 1940's but Rusnok may still be making these.
