Thrombin contributes to cancer immune evasion via ...

Together, our data reveal a mechanism of cancer immune evasion that involves thrombin-mediated GARP cleavage and the subsequent TGF-β1 release from platelets. We propose that blockade of GARP cleavage is a valuable therapeutic strategy to overcome cancer's resistance to immunotherapy.

Thrombocythemia | Johns Hopkins Medicine

Thrombocythemia is a disease in which your bone marrow makes too many platelets. Platelets are blood cell fragments that help with blood clotting. Having too many platelets makes it hard for your blood to clot normally. This can cause too much clotting, or not enough clotting. What causes thrombocythemia?

Author summary The primary function of the human red blood cell is to deliver oxygen to the tissues of the body. The ability of the red blood cell to deform allows it to squeeze through small capillaries along with helping transport platelets to damaged areas on the vessel wall, which initiates normal coagulation function. Many diseases are known to impede the …

Abstract. The platelet occupies a central position in the hemostatic reactions which protect the integrity of the vascular system in the case of injury. The arrest of bleeding occurs as the result of a complex series of responses involving contractile activity of the blood vessel wall, the formation of a platelet plug at the site of injury, the ...
