I have done some grinding on a CNC lathe with reasonable results. I only needed to grind a few parts, which were made from 8620, hardened to 62Rc. The parts required a little OD grinding, and some hairy internal grinding. As these were machine tool spindles with an HSK-60 taper they needed to be right on.

the 3/8 tool in the last picture is the same 10° grind, in essence. (it looks better in the real world than in picture) i use that tool mostly turning on 303,& 304- i can take substantial cuts in the 1236 and retain a very nice surface finish i also use the very same tool to work delrin to a very fine finish

7. I use a camel brown aluminum oxide wheel for the rough grinding of the lathe tools. Then i do the last bit of grinding on a green silicon-carbide wheel. I find that the silicon-carbide leaves a much better finish and will produce a mucher keener edge than A/O alone. But take it for what its worth - i'm essentially a newb.

To grind a tool you need a good grinder; either a bench grinder or belt sander will do. I prefer the latter because it is easier for me to use and it cuts much cooler and much faster but I can use a wheel just as well. Your grinding media should be a coarse grit.
