Raw, un-ground camshafts have a case-hardened rim on each lobe that penetrates this working surface by 0.200in to 0.250in. When finish-ground, the case-hardened surfaces must achieve a minimum depth of 0.100in. If less, the lobe will be impaired and likely fail. BTW, the leading CAD software for Pros is SolidWorks, and the leading CAM software is Mastercam, though Fusion 360 is moving up fast. Pros need the software that performs best for someone who is an expert in using the software.

You certainly can't tell by looking which of these two cams is the bargain basement grind. If you know how to decipher a cam card, the specs clue you in on the right decision. If you're building a cam for a fullon drag race effort like a Fastest Street Car, then a duration figure in the mid-270 degree at 0.050 might be a good place to start.
