The trunnion bearings should be checked for any undue temperature and the gear grease pattern can be observed for uniformity which would indicate correct alignment. If everything is clear, the mill can be run for from six to eight hours, observing any abnormal reactions at the trunnion bearings, pinion bearings, and gear and pinion mesh.
