Convert a manual milling machine for horizontal operations. For recesses, pockets, and workpieces that are too large or awkward to fit under a vertical mill, these attachments reduce the need for special tooling and fixturing by turning the spindle 90° so it operates parallel to the ground. A pair of spiral miter gears transfers power with a 1.33: 1 speed reduction.

5. If you go the power draw bar route consider a Torque Rite. Torque-Rite Drawbar Rite. I have one on one of my mills and with no complaints. It's an example of a product which impressed me with its quality of construction (not a modified hand tool but fully machined specific use air motor) priced a couple hundred less than a Kurt.

Simpson, The spec I saw was for ISO30, which does not have drive dogs, so probably 600 pounds would make sense with the dogs. Mine will be ISO30, as that's the only spindle available for my machine.

I use the brake on the Webb Mill to hold the spindle from moving when tightening or loosening a collet. I tighten them up until I can feel that the collet has seated nicely. Another inch or so on the wrench and I'm done. To remove, I lock the spindle and use a dead-fall hammer to tap the top of the drawbar. Works for me.

A DIY power draw bar seemed like a good project to use the mill for, so I started formulating a plan. Most if not all of the DIY and power drawbars I saw were based on pneumatic impact drivers. Most also used pneumatic cylinders to lower the driver onto the drawbar hex and to actuate the driver.

Stan, my mill has an R-8 spindle and I have a fair amount of tooling for it and that's why I chose to go the power drawbar route. I saw that guys plans and the pics of his drawbar look a little rough around the edges so I'm just going to make my own from what I can easily get my hands on.

Often we have to settle for one of the Rong Fu or RF clones -- RF-20, RF-25, RF-30 or Rf-31-- round column mill/driils. I have both an HF mini-mill and and RF-31 (Taiwan made).
