- What Is Roughing Mill
Roughing end mills do remove metal faster than standard end mills do. The way they do it is by having numerous teeth ground across the axis of each flute, and each tooth is a separate cutting edge that takes a chip out of the material being cut.

Through all stages, the required CNC products can be made from blanks. This paper mainly discusses the rough machining and the difference between rough machining and finish machining.

The idea, is to rough out a pocket, profile, or 3D surface by plunging either a twist drill, an end mill, or a special-purpose tool straight down into the material.

It is measured from the start of the necked portion to the bottom of the cutting end of the tool. The neck relief allows space for chip evacuation and prevents the shank from rubbing in deep- pocket milling applications.

This means a 0.50-inch end mill will be engaged 0.025 to 0.050 inch. This setting will impact RCT calculations as well. For example, the average recommended feed rate for a 0.50-inch tool is approximately 0.002 inch per tooth.

I could drill several .75-1" holes to remove material and then finish things with an end mill which would seem to have a little easier time by not having a full-width cut.
