I primarily do woodworking, and I milled mostly acrylic and wood on this machine. I used it to build jigs for my other woodworking machinery. It wasn't used a lot, but when I needed it, I needed it.

I noticed Grizzly make a tool grinder for £1700 (not cheap) but then I noticed the U3 by some Chinese company is next to identical. You can see the comparison below. Grizzly is to top one. Every bolt and lever are in the same place. I have a bit of a reservation about buying a bit of precision equipment made in China when I have no reviews.

The other thing you may want to look into is a track saw. You can get them from , Grizzly, etc. They are pretty flexible for making nice straight line cuts, and you can make the track as long as you want. Their max cut is still a little over 2" usually. It might be a better option if space is a concern.

PS- if you are in a tool poor part of the world, something like the Rong Fu mill-drill (HF, Grizzly, Enco, etc) is a sort of sh!t mill, but does just fine as a dedicated tube mitering machine. I'm happy to have moved away from mine, but it did the job for years.

Anyway, the arbors on the mill are smooth without a keyway. The hob I want to use has a keyway. Errr.. the problem is the hob's shaft diameter is 1.5". The arbor is 1.25" with a R-8 end. ( Supplied with mill) I just spent the last 8 hours trying to find something on line. Most cutting tools and hobs have a keyway. The arbor does not have a keyway.

Speaking of horz. vs. vert. mills, has anyone had any experience with the Grizzly #3617 V&H mill? By the way it's on sale for $3095. If I bouht one I would like to equip it with 3ph motors so I could use a VFD.

Good day gentlemen. My mill, a ten year old Grizzly 3617 has quite a rattle in the quill, before I take it apart, I wonder if any of you have a suspicion as to what it might be. For what it is worth, it does not seem like a bearing. Thanks.

I have installed 2 sets on milling machines and one on a lathe, and I have the scales for both my shapers here to install it on them as well. I would recommend installing the X scale on the front of the table so you don't loose any travel. I did a right up a while ago here about installing it on the front.

I purchased the Grizzly 3617 mill. I got a deal on a use pallet jack and was able to move it into my shop using the pallet jack. The mills have 2 fork slots on the bottom. Don’t know if the pallet jack is the correct width to lift from here though. To get it off the pallet I got 2 pieces of 3x6 channel about 18 inches longer than the pallet.

Here is mine, it has changed a bit since the photo was taken, but still basically the same machine. It's a HM52 which is the Grizzly 3617 over in the US. It has both vertical and horizontal spindles, and come fitted with a power feed on the X and I added the Y and Z power feeds. I has a 3 axis Sino DRO and I have fitted a glass quill scale as well.
