The most salient fact that came out of that interaction was that of the mash bill, said to be a "family recipe" of 72% corn, 13% rye, and 15% malted barley. As mentioned above: this is batch number 20-08, and is bottled at 57.15%, consistent with prior bottlings of Noah's Mill. My local charges $55 for a 750 ml bottle.

Two traditional makes of mill resembling museum pieces remain almost universally used by Scotch malt whisky distillers - the commonplace 'Porteus Patent Malt Mill' and the rarer Robert Bobby Mill. Malt Mill's whisky was used as a contribution to the company's blends, most notably White Horse and Mackie's Ancient Scotch, which featured the name of the distillery on the label. It was never – as far as historians know – bottled as a single malt. The distillery was eventually closed in 1962, its equipment incorporated into Lagavulin.

The mills themselves consist of two rollers. The first bursts the grains open and the second grind the grist into a suitable consistency. The second roller can be adjusted; depending on how fine or thick the distillery wants their grains. The grist is judged on three components, the husk, the grit or middle and the flour.
