The slab is rolled in roughing mill 5 or 7 times repeatedly to reach the minimum thickness requirement of around 30 mm. The roughing mill also contains edger rolls which are used to roll the edge of slab and center it. The hot strip mill can be either a high performance mill or a compact mill.
