Shopsmith used to make a variable speed belt drive bench without all the woodworking units. It was made to mount the addons. I picked one up at auction for $50, removed the legs and put it on my wheeled grinder bench. Add a disk and go. The drive shaft is double ended so you can reverse the rotation by switching ends.

I'm running 3, 1.5hp baldor motors on one kb-27 VFD with 2 switches one is on the 2"x72" one is on a vertical disk sander with the nelson disk the other is a horizontal disk sander, works great. I think I've got a youtube video of the grinder bench up if you wana check it out its under Bootleg Blades.
